WE'RE BAAAACK!

Europeene des Condiments,The Curator and Mrs. Mustard have returned from their trip to France where they agonized through six days in Paris and three days in Dijon. See their photo album and drool. Dijon is a beautiful city, filled with historic old buildings and breathtaking views of centuries past. And mustard.

Here is the Curator presenting World-Wide Mustard Competition medals to our friends at Europeene de Condiments, manufacturers of Temeraire Dijon Mustard. In honor of their achievement, we have special pricing (save a dollar per jar on Temeraire through June 30, 2008.) See the specials, below.

Maille mustard shop

One of the most popular shops in Dijon is the Maille mustard shop on the Rue de la Liberté. Amora-Maille is the largest mustard maker in France and the Curator received a royal welcome at the plant in Chevigny on the outskirts of Dijon.

Moutarderie

Not far from Dijon is the famous wine town of Beaune, also the home of the Edmond Fallot Moutarderie, our sister museum, where you can grind your own seeds and make your own mustard. Definitely worth a visit. We are proud to carry nearly the entire line of Fallot mustards.

MUSTARD ON THE AIR

Tune in to Wisconsin Public Radio on Friday, May 23, at 3:00 p.m. (CDT) and hear the Curator talking mustard with Jean Feraca on her daily show, "Here On Earth." If you're outside the WPR listening area, you can catch it streaming online at www.wpr.org.

MR. MALAPROP IN FRANCE

The Curator and Mrs. Mustard lost each other for a short time while walking the streets of Beaune. After about an hour, the Curator hailed a policeman riding a bicycle. The Curator explained - in his best French - that he had lost his wife and wondered if the officer had seen a woman looking for her husband. No luck. The gendarme asked the curator for a description of the indescribable Mrs. Mustard. The Curator tried to say that she has red hair ("cheveux rouge") but what came out was: "Elle a des chevaux rouge."

Vincent Van GoghThe officer, showing off his English, replied, "Ah, monsieur, your wife has red horses? You Americans are quite strange, n'est-ce pas?"

Strange indeed. (Here is Mrs. Mustard with another redhead, Vincent Van Gogh (taken at the Orsay Museum in Paris). Separated at birth?

THE COLLECTION UPDATE

CURATOR GOES WILD . . .

The Curator went wild in France, buying or otherwise obtaining 57 new mustards for the collection. Customs officials shook their heads as Mount Horeb's Mustard Marauder hauled his heavy suitcases (just barely under the weight limit) through the line. This brings the official count to 4,982. Our goal of 5,000 different mustards by National Mustard Day (Aug. 2) is in sight.

Also new to the museum is this eye-popping tin of Meteor Mustard.
